Potomac Canvas began working with the U.S. Marine Corps. OCS at Quantico Va. almost 20 years ago to improve a tool for hand to hand combat used by the Marine Corps. and other military units in training. The original pugil stick was constructed of wood pole and foam wrapped with duct tape. This design was breaking and causing injury and even death to troops training using the old style.
Potomac Canvas began to work with the instructors and designed a unit with an aluminum pole that can be weighted to the exact specs of an M16 rifle. The padding was improved to sustain the abuse these tools are put through. The covers are easily replaced. The main benefit of the "Potomac Canvas " design is that injuries were reduced dramatically.
Any other version of this tool is simply inferior in design and function.
